Division

vykr An excellent collection of powerful pop songs which reminded me of bands like 'The Pillows', 'Sloan' and, more recently, 'Lykantropi': simple song structures and smart lyrics belieing the skill needed to create such brain worming rock 'n' roll executed with verve and passion. I wish some songs were longer but, would that make them any better? I doubt it. Like the best albums, it whets the appetite for whatever comes next. Favorite track: Division.

Welcome 02:49
Hi, welcome good evening sincere thanks for being with us here Born only by chance then told of circumstance to two sides left with only rights we can share here or there For some allegory, for some it’s just a story far from here Learn, see, and revise how to see with our eyes Never clear always blind to what we can share here or there Clouds gather overhead and take light from the sky. Electricity then wind, ice, and fate come raining down on community Sky then clears. One side has light one does not Still this is the vision. All connected decisions brought us here Where did we go when we blinked our eyes and then Could see two sides to our story we can share here or there

Hello Hello 02:10
Hello, hello is this thing on is everything here, is everything gone All our bones one color all our tones one sound Morning Morning is everything good all that will & all that would All our bones one color all our tones one sound Connection has been lost connection has been lost Farewell farewell is everything wrong Another rhyme another song All our bones one color all our tones one sound All our bones one color all our tones one sound

Mayday 02:24
Mayday emergency Say these words three times, to bring greedy flailing Everyone said everyone said live and let live Everyone did everyone did what they said we shouldn’t do Mayday lost connection Looked across the bridge to see family falling Everyone said everyone said live and let live Everyone did everyone did what they said we shouldn’t do Mayday. Storm make wind make fallen tree Storm make wind make electricity a memory Mayday yelling into telephone Mirrored from ourselves to see moral failing Everyone said everyone said live and let live Everyone did everyone did what they said we shouldn’t do what they said we shouldn’t do Mayday Mayday Mayday

Division 02:42
Told ourselves all things would turn out fine must stay on this spin Stories told in future times can’t tell no one believes this We’re not seeing eye to eye Re-examine moral famine. Re-envision our division Side by side we silently abide within without thought On this ride the struggle won’t subside looked down but not around We’re not seeing eye to eye Re-examine moral famine. Re-envision our division We’re not seeing eye to eye Re-examine moral famine. Re-envision our division Told ourselves to just enjoy the ride must trust the lack of plan Hiding one side guides recorded time not one for want of all We’re not seeing eye to eye Re-examine moral famine. Re-envision our division We’re not seeing eye to eye Re-examine moral famine. Re-envision our division

If I could be the window between you and me I could see vivid difference If I could see our mirrored lives, all of us free I could be lived in the past tense All rises and falls we are windows and walls If we would be a mirror for us all to see We could be future difference If we would see it all as us, not us and them We could be life in future tense All rises and falls we are windows and walls All rises and falls we are windows and walls

Darkness 02:50
In shadow we stuck with your rules Twice forgot how to use these tools Simple turns turned horrific quick Flicker flick goes lighter click We don’t hear that sound. Darkness, darkness Bring light back around In sunlight we enforced the same Turns out we all find comfort in blame Raked in though still morally broke Everything ended once greed spoke We don’t hear that sound. Darkness, darkness Bring light back around In sickness we turned off the light In health wealth went to the wrong fight Inherent inside knowledge fails Ship going down we’ve made profit from sails We don’t hear that sound. We don’t hear that sound Darkness, darkness bring light back around Darkness, darkness bring light back around Darkness, darkness bring light back around

To See You 03:18
With fears and hemispheres aligned I want to hear your voice say just hello or can’t wait to see you It’s clear with years of letters here, I pick up the phone but don’t hear a tone so I can’t wait to see you Can’t wait to see you. I can’t wait to see you Can’t wait to see you just one more time I know we go in slowest speed I need to show my choice nod yes or no. Can’t wait to see you Follow hollow suggestions best so your words surround me be together see, I can’t wait to see you. Can’t wait to see you One more time one more time one more time one more time I can’t wait to see you. Can’t wait to see you I can’t wait to see you. Can’t wait to see you just one more time

Falling 03:10
Falling so far we won’t see the sun Unable to unite except during night everyone’s dreaming Our divisional view means less light on you more on us falling for invisible rights Unsustainable lift this chromatic gift all colors and shades Our electrified screen won’t build our scene As we’re blindly falling for invisible rights falling for divisional sights falling so far we won’t see the sun Uncontrollable fall caused by wanting all We’re still moving backward Our artificial might gives us some insight To the sound of falling for invisible rights falling for divisional sights falling for invisible rights falling for divisional sights falling so far we won’t see the sun

The lights went down on our side of the block Electricity was gone for days On the other side everything was fine We could see them laughing in the light We're waiting to be like them How much longer How much longer How much longer The lights came back on our side of the street Electricity was back for us On the other side everything went black Couldn’t see them laughing in the dark Waiting to be like us How much longer How much longer How much longer One side has access one side has success One side has both but it's far from the best Heat still off on our side of the street Nothing to see but darkened ice On the other side all are comfortable We can see them laughing in the warmth Waiting to be like them How much longer How much longer How much longer

Reflections 02:40
Inside divided we were, without the lights In sight a bright big future, without the lights Everything we see is not quite what we can be so we squint harder We can switch sides but should switch sights Manifest destiny test without the lights Rights rest on our best guesses without the lights Everything we see is not quite what we can be so we squint harder We can switch sides but should switch sights Within our lit homes, we can’t see outside our reflection With closed eyes we can’t feel something in our shared air We should care. We should share the lights Realistic prices hiked without the lights Empires tire hiding without the lights Everything we see is not quite what can we be so we squint harder We can switch sides but should switch sights

The Same 02:26
We're all the same but one side is connected We're all a shame but one side is affected All along all alone, home surrounded home All is dark all is down, disconnected town We're all the same but one side is corrected We're all a shame but one side is suspected Some are weak some have been some found all within Some are flame some are wicks some buildings are bricks Why are we so sure the blame is not all on us as we are We’re all the same but one side is neglected We’re all a shame but one side is respected None within none without information drought None above none absolved nor became involved We're all the same but one side is connected We're all a shame but one side is affected We're all the same but one side is connected We're all a shame but one side is affected now

Burning 03:13
From the outside in, looking Into fire. Indivisible beautiful light Looking from inside, at the outside, at all that we never were the small changes are not through with us yet inside or outside Blame burning fame burning shame burning Flame burning all our homes Sirens in the air, winding with wind Searching for volunteers, then finding those ready to go inside Blame burning fame burning shame burning Flame burning all our homes Fire, ice, then water, and wind Higher, nice, then slaughter, and make wars Blame burning fame burning shame burning Flame burning all our homes
13.
Clean 02:46
Shame, sharing electricity made spark Starting fire and ending voltage flow Flame taking over all houses in sight Water is no match for this fire’s rage All our bodies all our homes. All our treasures all our trash This is our clean slate Rain washes away dirt and ash the same Only finding way with watercourse Drain taking our best and worst first and last Drowning unhelpful tradition dead Not our language nor our tongue. Not our cycle nor our fight This is our clean slate Lacking access to what serves us. We became nervous of our neighbor’s success. We’re the same Blame all on us we caused this overload Only finding more in our mistakes Day after day the sun comes up and still We become ash and ash becomes us All our bodies all our homes. All our treasures all our trash This is our clean slate

Night 02:16
The night comes so quick racing spinning rock The night goes so slow all we know is that we go on The night anxiety racing spinning mind The night we will not owe All we know is that we go on through and through again then rise and fall through and through again then rise and fall on the other side The night is nearly gone, chasing spinning air The night has sung it's song All we know is that we go on through and through again then rise and fall through and through again then rise and fall on the other side

about

March 12, 2019 An ice storm knocked out power in various areas all over North America for several days. We slept sundown to sunrise. Across the street the homes never lost power, and things were as normal.
March 12, 2020 The virus caused a local and global lockdown. We saw a division of society, ethics, access, belief, and sides. The house across the street faced eviction.
These songs came from those times. In this album there's a storm, a power outage, divisional experiences, and a switch of power. When access to power is shared, a spark starts a fire that burns down both sides. All rebuild.
